Road transport is the most common form of transportation, with an extensive road infrastructure. Cargo and passengers move on the road using wheeled means of transportation, and services in this regard are provided by road carriers.
This transportation can be carried out by cars, vans and trucks, depending on the type of services offered by the carrier and the focus on the various forms of transportation – whether of passengers or goods. Transportation and shipping companies (excluded from passenger transportation) often offer both bus and truck transportation to respond to the needs of different customers.
Transportation of fresh products requires refrigerated vehicles
Some goods need to be transported under special conditions using appropriately equipped vehicles. This is particularly true for food, which, if transported at too high a temperature, will spoil – although refrigerated transport is also applicable to the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, agricultural or chemical industries, among others. Guidelines for the temperature at which the products in question can be transported are strictly defined, the temperature range being most often from -25’C to +25’C.
Refrigerated transport at LCL Spedition
Refrigerated transport is a rapidly growing branch of logistics and the demand for temperature-controlled transportation continues to grow. Our company LCL Spedition, wishing to adapt its services to the needs of customers, has in the ranks of its fleet a dozen Volvo Low Deck tractors with Schmitz refrigerated trailers.
LCL Spedition’s vehicles with semi-trailers – refrigerated trailers – have features that increase the safety of both the cargo itself and the vehicle during transport. Each semi-trailer is ATP and FRC certified. Measurements of temperatures inside the semi-trailer are taken at the beginning and end of the semi-trailer in order to have information on the conditions throughout the trailer. Each of the vehicle’s five axles is equipped with scales, which is an additional control to prevent overloading on either side – the driver can control these parameters in real time, as the information can be accessed at all times through an app located in the truck’s cockpit. The interior height of our trailers is 2.85 meters, which is higher than the standard 2.6 meters – giving a larger cargo area.
Refrigerated trailersare available in several types. From an economic point of view, dopplestock refrigerated trailers, owned by LCL Spedition, are the most advantageous option. They make it possible to transport goods on two levels, thanks to the presence of the so-called double floor. The interior of the semi-trailer is equipped with rails on the side walls and beams that can be adjusted in height via these rails. It is this system that makes it possible to create a second level on which light goods can be placed, which increases the cargo capacity of the trailer from 33 to 66 Europallets. This option makes transportation more profitable, while at the same time demonstrating concern for the environment by reducing fuel consumption.
Electronic trailer security system
Another special feature of the refrigerated vehicles included in LCL Spedition’s fleet is the electronic trailer security system. Thanks to it, an employee from a computer application, while remaining in the office, can continuously control not only the temperature inside the vehicle, but also its security. The driver does not have the ability to open or close the semi-trailer, this activity is performed remotely by a designated employee. This feature of the vehicle makes transportation by means of it applicable not only for products that must be transported at specific temperatures, but also for transporting cargo of very high value. It is not possible to open the vehicle manually and about such attempts, the system will immediately notify the designated employee, via the app.
Ferry handles increase safety during ferry crossings
LCL Spedition’s fleet vehicles often take a course towards Sweden, which involves a ferry crossing. During storms, our sets are additionally protected by so-called ferry holders, placed on the outer parts of the semi-trailer (rear and sides). This protects both the vehicle and the cargo from damage and overloading.
Refrigerated transport is certainly more demanding than standard transport, posing a challenge for the carrier. We make every effort to ensure that our vehicles meet the highest quality standards and are equipped with modern systems. No compromises when it comes to safety and quality of service.
